"Fashion is architecture: It's a matter of Proportions" - Coco Chanel

One of the reasons why I started this blog was that I have grown increasingly tired of seeing young women walking down the street, squeezed into something that they thought looked great in a magazine or on a mannequin and/or celebrity, but was not translating the same onto their bodies.
The key to dressing well is all about knowing your body and having the confidence. You must choose items of clothing which highlight and accentuate the best aspects of your body, and camoflauge the worst (because we all have them). Most women have trouble with this, because they are not honest with themselves about what they really look like. With the influence that celebrity continues to have on our culture, we tend to try mimic their image. The problem is, celebrities have stylist who spend hours putting together looks that compliment them perfectly, and some the addition of plastic surgery. It is okay to look like a real woman and not have breasts that sit up to your chin tightly squeezed into a bandage dress.

There are six categories that most women's bodies fall into. Flip through any fashion magazine out on the stands, and you will find a guide to dressing your body type. They are quite helpful and offer many options for every woman. Just know that you can be a 2 to 14 in virtually all of these shapes. Size and shape are two completely different entities.

One of the greatest things about fashion, in my opinion, is that you have the option of purchasing clothes which flatter your silhouette and often create illusions. Take for instance a jacket with a significant waist tie. Most women want to achieve the hour glass look, but do not necessarily fall into that category. If you pair a jacket with a waist tie and a trouser that elongates the leg, a rectangular or diamond shaped woman can create the illusion that the waist is smaller by cinching it in and focusing attention down the leg.

There are many tricks which can help you look your best, but never buy something just because it looked good somewhere else.
